149th RCMP Anniversary – Vigil – 23 May 2022
May 23 @ 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Reveille at 6:00 on May 23, starts the day with the bugler’s call. With the rising of the sun, serving members and Veterans start the Vigil. Every thirty minutes, A Piper leads the changing of the sentries and a call is sounded by the designated. At 11:00, all present gather for a ceremony to remember our own. The RCMP Chaplain opens the ceremony with a prayer.
The Master of ceremony will then underline that wreaths will be laid to remember those who have served Canada so diligently and that our thoughts are also with their families who supported them. The solid tripartite partnership, Beechwood Foundation, RCMP Veteran’s Association and the RCMP have made the cemetery possible. The RCMP asked the Veterans to lead the project and, over the years, a number of former members of all ranks, up to the level of D/Commr. and public servants have volunteered their time and have worked tirelessly to convert the vision into reality.
The RCMP National Memorial Cemetery is for all employees of the RCMP – Regular Members, Civilians and Employees of the Public Service and their families. It reflects the sense of family that is a distinguishing factor in the lives of RCMP employees
