Annually Canada marks Veterans’ Week, November 5-11, as a time to pay special tribute to all veterans leading up to Remembrance Day. The Ottawa Division of the RCMP Veterans’ Association along with the Beechwood Cemetery Foundation will on Sunday November 10th, host a special ceremony at the RCMP National Memorial Cemetery at Beechwood honouring all those who have served Canada in times of war, military conflict and peace, and especially the many who have fallen in the service of our country.
This is an open service and we encourage all RCMP veterans, employees, their families and the general public to attend at the site of the RCMP Fallen Member Cenotaph & Honour Roll. A small number of invited guests will be called upon to lay a wreath. The service will commence shortly before 10:45 am and should be no more than 30/40 minutes in duration. Those who might wish to join us on the Parade Square would be most welcome and are asked to please contact our Sgt-at-Arms Marc Dureau, CD at ottawa.sgtatarms@rcmpva.org by November 4th.
The order of dress for those who will be part of the parade is: No.1 Duty and Parade Dress (Blue blazer) with headdress with large medals.
We are grateful to those who serve those who have served and those who are no longer with us. Their family members are always in our thoughts.
Immediately following the memorial service, all attendees are also invited to the main pathway near the cenotaph where we will be unveiling a number of commemorative plaques recognizing the history of the RCMP Air Services, the RCMP Guidon, the RCMP Long Service Medal and a special commemorative pathway plaque celebrating the 80th anniversary of the police schooner R.C.M.Police St Roch east-to-west patrol through the North-West Passage.

Remembrance Day is a yearly memorial day that is observed in many Commonwealth countries, including Canada, to remember those who died in military service, and honour those who served in wartime. It is observed across Canada each year on 11 November — the anniversary of the Armistice agreement of 1918 that ended the First World War.
Remembrance Day is a day for all Canadians to remember the men and women who served and sacrificed for our country. It is a day we encourage every individual, young and old, to pause, to give thanks and to remember.
The Poppy from the last Friday in October to Remembrance Day, millions of Canadians wear a Poppy as a visual pledge to never forget those who sacrificed for our freedom. We invite everyone across the country to show their recognition by proudly wearing this symbol of Remembrance and taking a moment to reflect. FIND A POPPY NEAR YOU
